Ecco HD: My small personal music project

Some may remember how music was one of the first things I've contributed to the Ecco community, starting back in 2002. I still do it, although not as frequently and mostly in my free time as a harmless hobby.
Here are some of my works I'm confident enough in for to share. If I make any new ones, they will go in here as well.

I used to listen to Aqua Maze on my mp3 player as I was going to sleep in middle school so it's really nice to hear a higher fidelity version of it. These are all very good. The guitar in The Lagoon is such a good match for the harsh FM synth of the original.

Thank you! Those FM waveforms most definitely left an impression on me and that is kind of what I was going with when recreating those tracks.

To me, Ecco 1 is most definitely Pink Floyd and synths and distortions work here very well, whereas Tides of Time expands on that and its soundtrack I can hear in my head as scored for an entire orchestra which finds reflection in my stabs on it :e_smile:

Ecco Jr to me is definitely the most peculiar specimen of them all though. It's supposed to be a game meant for little children, however its soundtrack is anything but with lots of very complex key changes and spooky tunes that wouldn't be out of place in a Dr. Who episode! But then we also have calm and peaceful tracks, such as Aqua Maze, although even that one modulates all over the place. Happy to know you liked my take on that!

Moray Abyss

This one must be one of my most ambitious musical project to date. The basic idea for this I had in my head for several years, but every time I'd sit down with my keyboard to actually try and record it, I would not get very far as things would unravel very quickly.

Until suddenly, 2 weeks ago, I felt really inspired by listening to all of the new remastered Ecco music as well as discussing it with Attila Héger. The basic framework for this I was able to record in just one morning, after which it was the vicious cycle of trying to actually make this sound good, which was not easy given the goals I've not set in front of me. I said many times how I’ve always imagined Tides of Time scored for an orchestra and my initial idea was to make this one as such, but as I struggled to find some of the voices, I suddenly discovered how some very basic synth patches will actually work just fine and it all kind of snowballed from there.

So thank you, Ata, for all the inspiration and great ideas, making this one has certainly taught me a lot! :e_smile:
