Re: Tides of Time: The 3D stages

I'm sure you're not alone as to me the 3D stages also used to be very challenging for a long while, especially later on in the game!

Rings that are above water but in the middle of the screen are fairly enough to get, even if you just start spamming jumping out of water, there is still a good ...

Re: A question about the Ecco 2 password generator

Appreciate your interest in this! I hope to produce a short article of sorts to better describe how that works. There weren't many games in 1994 that would have dynamic difficulty like that either!

Moray Abyss

This one must be one of my most ambitious musical project to date. The basic idea for this I had in my head for several years, but every time I'd sit down with my keyboard to actually try and record it, I would not ...

Re: Sziasztok!

Welcome here as well, happy to see you join the forums also!

Benjámin has been helping us a lot with sourcing all kinds of obscure and often missed information about Ecco and company that created the franchise, such as the recently published article from 576K magazine about Tides of Time and many ...

Re: A question about the Ecco 2 password generator

An excellent question, thank you!

Tides of Time has a fairly complicated dynamic difficulty system where it will award the player a few points for progressing through levels and switch into Hard mode once enough are accumulated. Similarly, dying on a level subtracts points.

The 3D stages are ...

Message board: new features

A few key tips on current message board features that may not be obvious:
You can quickly attach a picture to a post by simply copying and pasting it (Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V), assuming you're still within the upload limits. Attachment will be automatically placed into the message input at the current ...

Sharing stuff found on the Interwebs

Going to kick this off by sharing this wild thing I've recently learned about. Dreamcast has never looked this good!

Re: Hello!

Hello and welcome! So incredibly happy to see more of the old guard here! I wasn't around in time to see the Undercaves but long enough for the rest of the Ecco community, definitely happy to see I'm not the only one to have missed this!

Aha, now that is definitely a way to jog my memory, bring on the spoopyness! :e_grin:
Thank you for that, it did help me remember. Wonderful times!

Re: Ecco HD: My small personal music project

Thank you! Those FM waveforms most definitely left an impression on me and that is kind of what I was going with when recreating those tracks.

To me, Ecco 1 is most definitely Pink Floyd and synths and distortions work here very well, whereas Tides of Time expands on that and its soundtrack I can ...

See, I could remember it was something spooky but I already can't quite remember what she was, so thanks for refreshing my memory! :e_grin:
Would you have any pictures preserved by any chance so that we could relive those terrifying moments? :e_smile:

Re: Ecco tiles

Sorry for the late reply, I actually was checking something to see if this could be answered reliably.

Essentially, the information on how tiles go together is stored within the game ROM proper: separate 8x8 tiles are assembled into what's currently has the working name of "metatiles" (or ...

Makin' waves, I see!

So nice to see you here as well, the old guard is certainly coming together! It's fun how I do remember you from way back when I first joined the Ecco community but I recall how I was hesitant to approach because you had a spooky Clan phin on your avatar at the time :e_grin ...

Re: Ed answers our questions!

Another interesting question answered. I've been reading interviews with Brian Coburn as well as Spencer Nielsen , from which it could be concluded that Spencer's CD soundtrack was written first and that was then converted to FM:
A lot of the sounds on the Genesis was an attempt by people in Japan ...

Re: I fought and died in the console wars for the Dreamcast

We welcome you, brave warrior! You fought valiantly and tis no fault of yours that Sega chose to run from the battlefield in shame, completely devoid of the true Samurai spirit they once had! :e_annoy:

Ecco very similarly was the main reason I got a Dreamcast which was out of production at the ...

What is the Magic Arm and how it works

If you were like me back when first playing Tides of Time, you may have found the ever elusive (not really) Magic Arm, killed it as you would any other enemy and moved on, only to be left wondering what exactly was so special about it. Those who had much more spare time on their hand, however, would ...

Re: Ed answers our questions!

I spent decades thinking that Kitnee was the orca! I'm not sure I can go back now...
I know, right? I cannot think of Kitnee any other way, given Tara is a dolphin in ToT, so I was thinking it just must have been a mix-up in the manual.
I think we can pretend among ourselves that's indeed the case ...

Ed answers our questions!

As it's already known Ed has started an Ecco Discord server where among other things he sometimes answers Ecco related questions.
Considering they are going to be impossible to find in a few months, I decided to put some of those here. Please feel free to share here any other bits of Ecco trivia ...
